School Improvement

St. Malachy School is accredited by the State of Indiana and the North Central Association (NCA) under the guidance of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  As such, data is gathered and studied in order to determine goals under the Pillars Plan for School Improvement.

St. Malachy Parish School’s new three year school improvement plan which began with the 2008-2009 school year, includes the following goals.

Our Catholic Identity goal is:

All students will grow in their roles of stewards of faith through participation in outreach programs. The students will look beyond themselves and respond to the needs of other groups in our society.  The school community will continue to support parish outreach projects and will participate in our school wide outreach service projects.  Each grade level will be responsible for implementing their community outreach project, which will emphasize the Catholic Social Teaching of “Human Dignity”.

Our Instructional goal is: All students will improve reading comprehension skills across the curriculum.  The data received from ISTEP+, 4 Sight, and Indiana Reading Assessments was studied in a number of ways (Pass, Pass+, value-added, pre and post test results) to determine that good reading comprehension is necessary to show achievement in all areas.  Our students’ scores, while good, could improve and be more consistent from grade level to grade level.

Our institutional goal is: Public knowledge of St. Malachy Parish School will increase throughout the community. A parent public relations committee will collect and prepare items for submission to the local papers to communicate the academic activities and outreach projects to the school parents, parishioners and local residents.
