Megan Dunn – Third Grade

Mrs. Dunn's Email Address

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Ball State University in 2003. In April of 2009, I completed my Master of Science degree in Business Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. I LOVE learning, but I cannot say that I’m too disappointed in taking a break from writing research papers.

I am currently in my seventh year of teaching. My first teaching experience was at Pleasant Run Elementary in Indianapolis. I took a maternity leave position in which I taught fifth grade and then I was offered a full time contract to teach third grade. After getting married in 2006, I joined St. Malachy’s family and couldn’t be happier. I absolutely love teaching third grade!

Third grade can be a challenging year because greater expectations and responsibilities are placed upon scholars. I encourage scholars to collaborate with their peers, but I also promote independent thinking. Organizational skills are also developed at this grade level as each scholar is expected to maintain a daily planner in which he or she will write homework assignments. Third grade is a year for transitions.

A variety of educational activities will be introduced this year, but most notably is our mini-economy in the “town” of Dunnsburg. Scholars will learn economic principles through owning and operating their own stores. Applications for business licenses will be required, as well as the payment of overhead costs. Scholars will inevitably learn that organization, dedication, and hard work can result in profits. Scholars will also learn about budgeting and making wise decisions with their profits. This educational endeavor provides the opportunity for scholars to actively participate in such concepts as supply and demand, interdependence, budgeting, and is another opportunity to teach responsibility (we do try).

I truly look forward to working with you and your family this year. I am excited to begin the 2009 – 2010 school year. Our school – wide theme is “Be As Christ to All.” May God bless each and every one of you this year and may we all work together to BE AS CHRIST TO ALL.
