Lisa Hannon - First Grade
![]()
I received my B.S. degree in elementary education from IUPUI in 1988. I was a substitute for a number of years, worked as the Resource Room aid for two years, and taught one year of Second Grade prior to landing in First Grade.
Currently I am pursuing a Masters Degree in Language Education with a Reading specialty. I am passionate about working with first graders. They are so receptive to learning and very curious about everything around them.
At St. Malachy I am the chairperson for School Improvement. Outside of St. Malachy I am in the teacher leader group of the Indiana Partnership for Young Writers. I enjoy reading professionally and trying new things.
I enjoy all of the subjects I teach, but particularly Religion, Reading, and Writing. Rather than looking at the subjects and teaching standards in isolation, I like to think of my classroom as a place where all areas of learning overlap and are connected. I enjoy teaching my students using an inquiry approach. Each year is new and different.
Together my students and I build a sense of ownership and community in our classroom. Many teachable moments occur which cannot be anticipated and written in lesson plans. I take advantage of those moments whenever possible. I want school to be a place where my students feel safe, comfortable, and accepted for who God made them to be.
