Jen O'Connor - Kindergarten

I graduated from Butler University with a degree in elementary education and my kindergarten endorsement in 1999. Although I didn’t minor in special education, I took several classes in Emotional Handicaps and Learning Disabilities so that I could modify and adapt for different learning styles in the general classroom. I believe that it is a teacher's job to meet individual students' needs.
Previously, I had taught at Fishback Public Academy in Pike Township in a multi-age kindergarten/first grade classroom for 4 years until I stayed home to raise my 4 young children. During my time at home, I did private tutoring for children with learning disabilities in the primary grades. I was hired at St. Malachy in 2009 in order to start the new all day Kindergarten program with Mrs. Feeney. I am truly blessed to have a wonderful teaching partner!
In all day kindergarten, the young students develop pre-reading skills, math concepts, religion, Writer's Workshop, and we integrate science and social students throughout the curriculum. I believe in building a classroom together so in the beginning of the year things are fairly empty and we create/add as we go based on the children's needs.
I am blessed to be a part of the St. Malachy and want my students to feel like it a safe place for them to learn and grown in God's love.
